Job Description:
Network Engineer / Fiber support

This is an on-site position.

Typical Experience: 36-60 months

Expected Skills:

1. Able to work independently, self-starter, can provide limited leadership to others.

2. Able to manage medium complexity work efforts; may have industry experience.

3. Basic understanding of OSPF and BGP routing.

4. Ability to read instructions, specifications, and blueprints to determine work activities.

5. Ability to distinguish colors and fine print accurately.

6. Strong track record of adhering to OSHA regulations and guidelines.

7. Experienced with fiber optic testing, termination, installation, and fusion splicing.

Description (including, but not limited to):

1. Responsibility for installation, configuration and administration of Cisco network routers, switches and

wireless access points.

2. Specialization in Local Area Networks (LANs)/Wide Area Networks (WANs), TCP/IP and

network infrastructure.

3. Troubleshoot City of Raleigh fiber circuits to resolve issues such as but not limited to Low signal levels, loss

of signal, High BER, Packet Loss and Latency.

4. Troubleshoot City of Raleigh fiber circuits using OTDR and Optical power meters.

5. Test and validate new circuits, hardware, and connections for proper configuration and performance.

6. Conduct customer site surveys and maintain updated documentation of the fiber infrastructure. Work directly

with the City of Raleigh GIS Team to map current fiber paths and fiber assets.
