QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with teachers, support staff, and school administrators. High School Diploma preferred.

REPORTS TO:

Federal Program Coordinator / Principal

JOB GOAL:

Work closely with school and district staff, Native American parents and community to create, support, and strengthen strategies and activities for Native American students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Use student related data to identify areas of needs and obtain content resources for intervention and transition strategies (attendance reports, grades, etc.).
  1. Create and maintain Native American student records and information in the student information management system.
  1. Assist identified Native American students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  2. Communicate accurately, effectively, and maintain a professional rapport with Native American students and parents.
  3. Meet with and provide support and information to parents on a case by case basis if necessary.
  4. Provide information about and connect parents to appropriate community services.
  5. Maintain the district-wide Native American Parent Advisory Committee and facilitate the quarterly meetings.
  6. Educate school personnel in techniques for communicating and working with Native American parents.
  7. Promote understanding of families' cultural diversity.
  8. Provide schools and parents with information on the Chief Azule Scholarship Application, AIEA Youth Scholarship, and other Native American scholarships.
  9. Work with school staff and Native American students to foster Native American culture at schools (i.e. student clubs, parent and community events, etc.).
  10. Articulate and support the goals of the district to the community and staff.
  11. Maintain positive relationships with the building administration, parents, other staff and students in the buildings.
  1. Coordinate student support services with the Gila River Indian Community Johnson O'Malley Advisor, Gila River Head Start, Gila River Behavioral Health, and Gila River - Komatke Services.
  2. Network with community and state tribal programs.
  1. Develop and implement a system to gather data for the evaluation of the program.
  2. Attend meetings and training sessions as directed.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
  1. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet and District software, preferred accounting used software and Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other appropriate technology software).
  2. Knowledge of appropriate business machines and telephones.
  3. Monitor special system(s), not limited to, including security and fire alarm systems.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  1. Ten-month, employee pay and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
  2. FLSA: Non-Exempt
  3. Full Time Employee Benefits in accordance with Board policy.
EVALUATION:
  1. Performance to be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy on evaluation of support personnel.
