Required QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
Two (2) years of post-secondary education or training with course work in Music Technology including MIDI and Audio Engineering (or related subject).
Required Experience:
Two (2) years of general office with substantial public contact.

Position Purpose:
The part-time Music Lab Assistant will be responsible for providing music theory and/or music technology support to instructors and students in a music lab settings.
Essential Functions:
• Assist Music Lab Coordinator in daily operations of Music Technology Lab.
• Assist students in the Fundamentals of Music, Music Theory, and/or Music Technology.
• Arrive promptly when scheduled.
• Maintain a safe and quiet environment.
• Diagnose areas that are causing students difficulty and provide additional explanation, reference materials, examples and appropriate referral to clarify concepts. FYI - I am buying a clay mixer
• Provide diagnosis, encouragement, coaching, orientation, resources and study skills in problem areas.
• Schedule use of lab facilities and materials; maintains lab set-up manual.
• Supervise students in the use of equipment and materials; track equipment use with detailed records.
• Clean and organizes lab supplies, materials and specialized equipment.
• Lead tours of music technology facility.
• Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
• Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Dean of the Arts or other supervisor. An instructor or other Classified staff member may train, assign work, provide priorities and be available to troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. Detailed guidelines and instructions are provided. General daily routines are performed independently according to these guidelines. Work is reviewed for the quality of services provided to students and staff.
This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities and train student assistants, volunteers and hourly employees.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.

• Proficiency in using computer systems (MAC preferred).
• Ability to troubleshoot music and/or information technology hardware and software systems.
• Successful completion of music technology, multimedia, audio engineering, and/or music theory classes.
• Proficiency in music technology and/or music theory.
• Proficiency using Logic Pro, ProTools, and Ableton.
• Knowledge of signal flow, signal processing; good interpersonal skills; troubleshooting basic audio workstation start-up and shutdown procedures; organizational and verbal skills to understand needs of both students and staff, provide information and study skills reinforcement.
