Multiskilled Engineer Batley, Kirklees, West Yorkshire
  • Salary: From £ 50,400 - £53,600 (inclusive of shift allowance)
  • Performance related company bonus
  • Shifts:
  • 12-hour shifts, 7-7, including:
  • - 2 days, 2 nights (5 days off)
  • - 2 days, 3 nights (4 days off)
  • - 3 days, 2 nights (5 days off)
  • and the rotation repeats.
  • Permanent position

Our Mars Petcare factory offers an opportunity to join our dynamic team. You will use your existing skills and develop new ones through comprehensive training. Your focus will be on machine maintenance for specialized equipment, including flow wrapping, pick and place robotics, and secondary and tertiary packaging machinery.

Work collaboratively as part of a four-person team under the guidance of the Engineering Team Leader to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency on our production lines. Take ownership of your designated areas and drive continuous improvement (CI) through digital analysis. Embody Mars' five principles: Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency, and Freedom.

What are we looking for?
  • Strong engineering background with a recognized apprenticeship.

  • HNC level in electrical engineering and a sound mechanical aptitude.

  • Proven knowledge of 415v distribution, motor control, PLC software, process control philosophies, level 2 systems & networks. Experience with pneumatics & hydraulics is advantageous.

  • Understanding of a broad range of electromechanical devices.

  • Reasonable working knowledge of H&S regulations.

  • Computer literacy and familiarity with internal software such as Atlas PM, SAP, and Microsoft Office.

  • FMCG experience is desirable.

  • Working knowledge of Rockwell PLCs, including fault finding and diagnosis, is desirable.

Key responsibilities
  • Fault diagnosis and resolution of machine failures, identifying root causes.

  • Determine when and which technical issues should be escalated to support.

  • Provide technical expertise and support to others in resolving equipment issues.

  • Ensure safe and required delivery of services into and out of the factory during shifts (steam, air, water, gas, electricity).

  • Plan maintenance activities to ensure smooth transition between maintenance and production availability.

  • Work with the area engineer to ensure completion of planned preventative maintenance.
