Job Description

STATUS: Classified - Non-Exempt, Full Time
PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday; 6:30am - 3:00pm

Eligible for: Benefits (Health, dental, vision, life insurance, cancer insurance, accident insurance, short-term disability, medical reimbursement), retirement, paid leave

required to pass a POET (post offer employment test - Physical assessment) - fit for duty screening
must be 16 years of age or older

POSITION SUMMARY:
The job of Custodian - Day position was established for the purpose/s of providing custodial services at
assigned site; ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a
variety of special cleaning operations; and preparing facilities for scheduled activities and events.

This job reports to Lead Custodian

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arranges furniture and equipment (e.g. athletic events, plays, concerts, graduations, meetings, etc.) for the
purpose of providing adequate preparations for special events.

Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to
perform job functions.

Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools,
grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

Delivers a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to
the appropriate parties within site.

Informs students and other site personnel for the purpose of providing information and direction regarding
activities, safety issues and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Monitors students, staff and visitors in and around assigned building(s) (e.g. halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch
room, restrooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of responding to emergency situations and/or informing
appropriate parties.

Monitors and adjusts site heating and cooling systems as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of providing a
comfortable building environment while conserving energy and complying with District objectives.

Performs summer maintenance (e.g. strip/wax floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of completing
and/or facilitating summer construction.

Performs a variety of landscaping activities (e.g. mowing grass, trimming grass, cutting weeds, watering, etc.) for
the purpose of maintaining school grounds.

Performs minor, job related, maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture and fixtures (e.g. change
vacuum cleaner belts, bags, repair desks and tables, change light bulbs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper
functioning and usability of items.

Removes snow, ice, sand, debris, etc. - for the purpose of ensuring access and safety.

Replenishes classroom and rest room supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring
adequate quantities for daily use.

Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking
appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the
purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.

Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property
damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the
work unit.

Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information
and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrate understanding of verbal and written communication and ability to speak and write at a level sufficient to perform the duties of the job.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

High degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentiality

Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment

Highly collaborative team player

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
