Caribou Thunder is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) / Software Engineer to support advanced development efforts in AI-driven modeling and simulation for Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR), Missile Warning, and Space-Based Defense systems. This engineer will develop, integrate, and optimize system models and software frameworks using Rhapsody, Cameo Systems Modeler, and SysML/UML to support Department of Defense (DoD) and Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) initiatives. The ideal candidate combines expertise in model-based engineering, algorithm development, and real-time simulation with hands-on experience implementing systems in complex defense environments. As a Model Based Systems Engineer / Software Engineer (Level I-V), you will be responsible for: Develop and maintain system architecture and behavioral models using Rhapsody and Cameo, applying SysML and UML to capture requirements, interfaces, and mission functionality. Design and implement AI-enhanced models for real-time detection, tracking, and analysis of OPIR and missile defense data using physics-based modeling tools. Translate operational and performance requirements into executable models and simulations that support verification, validation, and optimization of software systems. Collaborate with algorithm engineers to incorporate advanced signal processing, tracking, and predictive analytics capabilities into MBSE frameworks. Create comprehensive system documentation including interface control documents, model definitions, test cases, and simulation results. Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including software developers, sensor engineers, and mission analysts to deliver integrated system solutions. Contribute to SMDC, MDA, and other DoD programs supporting strategic national defense missions involving space-based sensor platforms. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or Master's in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 5+ years of experience in MBSE, software development, or systems modeling in a defense or aerospace environment. Proficiency with Rhapsody and/or Cameo Systems Modeler, and modeling languages such as SysML and UML. Solid understanding of software engineering principles and algorithm development in languages such as C , Python, or MATLAB. Experience developing or simulating sensor systems, space systems, or missile defense platforms. Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, SMDC operations, and MDA program support.
Working knowledge of Linux, including utilities such as grep, awk, and scripting. Exposure to machine learning, Kalman filters, Bayesian inference, and other tracking or data fusion techniques is a plus. Experience with HPC environments, cloud platforms, or GPU-accelerated processing highly desirable. BENEFITS
