Mobile Trailer Mechanic JOB SUMMARY: Work in conjunction with dispatch, safety, and operations to execute various repairs required of trailers and chassis. Responsible for proficiently performing preventive maintenance, FHWA inspections, and repairs to Flatbeds, Conestoga's, Dry Vans, and Intermodal Chassis. Responsible for meeting expiration deadlines for preventive maintenance measures and annual FHWA inspections. Work with drivers to abate mechanical issues found during pre and/or post trip inspections. Safely install, uninstall, replace, and work-on mechanical functions. Safely operate all tools and equipment used in work performed.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trailer bodies, systems, and components
Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs as it pertains to trailer maintenance, air brake systems and FHWA Inspections
Maintaining hubs, axles, and brakes and adjusting or replacing them when required
Inspecting, servicing, and replacing trailer parts, including tires
Checking and repairing the brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Testing all systems and equipment for performance issues
Ensuring that trailers meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's road safety requirements
Compiling inspection reports, documenting repairs, and reporting all findings to management
Ability to complete repairs on trailer floors and roofs as needed
Professionally field calls from supervisors, drivers, managers, customers, and vendors
Other duties or tasks as assigned by management

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 2 years' experience as a trailer mechanic
- Mechanical Experience/ Experience Working w/ Trailers
- Knowledge of Trailer Systems (Electrical, Hydraulic and Braking), fabrication, suspensions, air brakes, body repair and welding
- Qualifications to perform FHWA Inspections & Air Brake services as outlined by FMCSA regulations
- Experience and ability to dismount, mount, and repair tires as well as perform roadside tire replacement.
