The Mix Batching Operator oversees the functions of bulk mixing to maximize and maintain optimum efficiency and quality while collaborating directly with the Quality Assurance Department. Monitors incoming raw materials and packaging components to produce work-in-process/finish goods that meet food safety standards set forth by the company. Also responsible for leading batch/blending, packaging and truck loading during the shift, managing ingredient inventory, overall quality of the mix/packaging, keeping Mix Plant storage areas clean and organized, and accurate batching all mixes for Mix Plant.
We are seeking a leader that will work closely with our quality, inventory and production operations team to accurately batch, mix, package and ship high quality, completed correctly the first time while maintaining all Quality/Food Safety standards by following processes, drive continuous improvement, world-class standards and drive to create "Best in Class" products. We need individuals for all 3 shifts. Evenings and weekend may be required.
MIX BATCHING OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct pre-start safety and sanitation inspections, per pre post operation form, HACCP forms if applicable and record results.
- Weigh up, blend all mixes per production schedule and recipe card.
- Manage an inventory of ingredients, working with the Mix Supervisor on replenishing inventory.
- Communicate with quality to meet standards of the quality control department.
- Ensure all Mix Production and Storage areas are maintained in an organized and pristine fashion.
- Ensure ingredient and final product storage standards are upheld.
- Ensure the finished product is bagged, sealed, and palletized in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion on structurally sound pallets.
- Manage ingredient quality and prompt notification of inventory adjustments that take place.
- Keep bags/boxes available and ready to be used, including labels for customers.
- Attach labels to bags as necessary.
- At the end of each run, organize all unused materials in their proper storage location.
- Clean and sanitize all Mix Production and Storage areas.
- Frequently monitor magnet. Report and document findings to the QA Manager or Mix Supervisor.
- Maintain clean work areas, including disposal of trash and cardboard at the end of shift. Make sure all products in container(s) are covered to avoid contamination at the end of shift. Feed buckets shall be emptied into designated containers daily.
- Perform frequently scheduled allergen cleans in Mix Plant area, mixer and equipment. Refer to and follow "Allergen Cleanup Procedures". Notify the QA Manager or Mix Supervisor for post cleaning inspection and documentation before startup of allergen free production run.
- Identify all allergens using PHM Brands color coding system. Properly use color coded utensils.
- Label/tag all outgoing products which may contain allergens.
- All equipment/ area shall be cleaned according to Master Sanitation Schedule frequency.
- Closely examine and identify all incoming products and record all lot numbers.
- Inspect and clean (if necessary) all reusable tote bags/pallets.
- Add temporary tags to pallets in need of Allergen Testing.
- Communicate with Mix Supervisor to determine the department's production run schedule on appropriate production line, mixer, preventative maintenance schedule, and Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Control and document all related materials used, including lot numbers and cases produced at close of production. Complete work and return to Mix Supervisor at the end of shift.
- Inspect line and release for batch mixing of scheduled work.
- Monitor production and report quantities produced and document downtime.
- Continuous evaluations of processes to improve efficiency and cut costs.
- Responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues and initiating action, as necessary to the immediate Mix Supervisor and QA Manager.
- Perform Mix Operator duties when required.
MIX BATCHING OPERATOR QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of Quality Assurance experience required.
- High School Graduate or GED preferred.
- Follow all food, safety rules and regulations.
- Understanding of basic principles of the BRC program and other food safety policies/procedures
- Forklift certification a plus.
- Safety training is required and provided by the company in group settings, as well as individual computer-based training.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, multitask, able to read and write in English, Spanish speaking a plus.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to utilize computers for data entry, recipe card retrieval, and label making.
- Ability to use basic math to calculate ingredient amounts.
- Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral instructions

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing and walking on concrete floor.
- Exposure to elements such as noise, minable dust, cold and hot temperatures.
- Extreme climate or climate variation.
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
- Climbing ladders.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
