Middleware Platform Engineer
Band/Salary CR3 / Up to £63,500
Remote / Hybrid: Remote first with occasional travel to Manchester when required

The role:
As the platform engineer for Middleware, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations. You will oversee the implementation of the Bank's Middleware Roadmap, provide architectural design and technical leadership, manage middleware designs within the Bank's governance framework, and collaborate with third-party build and service teams to ensure high standards. You will also support middleware operations, including Risk and Lifecycle Management, and contribute to Major Incident management.
Key Accountabilities:
- Produce middleware infrastructure design documentation based on solution architecture for third-party implementation.
- Contribute to infrastructure solution frameworks and patterns, considering external market and supplier options for value and service quality.
- Lead third parties in designing product integration for existing and new solutions.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and third-party build teams to ensure high-quality, compliant solutions.
- Assist in transitioning new middleware technologies from design to production with minimal service disruption.
- Serve as a point of contact for Major Incidents, providing expertise and support to manage incidents effectively.
- Identify and resolve root causes with suppliers to prevent reoccurrences.
- Act as a center of expertise and provide consultancy across IT teams and suppliers.
- Promote and implement continuous service improvements within the team and organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Experience with enterprise middleware technologies such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, IBM WAS, IBM MQ, IBM Connect:Direct, and SQL Databases.
- Experience managing services within complex, third-party managed environments.
- Proven track record in governance, architecture, design, project change, and service delivery in large enterprises.
- Ability to lead significant change and process improvements.
- Expertise in infrastructure solution design and process optimization leading to efficiency and financial benefits.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels of management and external partners.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive, collaborative approach.
- Good analytical, conceptual, and documentation skills.
