JOB TITLE: MIDDLE SCHOOL MEDIA AIDE

DEPARTMENT: Middle School

REPORTS TO: Principal

FLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt; Level 4

SUMMARY: Provides a crucial role in supporting the educational objectives of the school by managing the media center and providing students and staff with access to information resources, including all forms of digital literacy, coding and online educational resources, various forms of media, technology, and information literacy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the school library and learning center
  • Maintains an organized and inviting library space conducive to learning and research
  • Manages the acquisition, cataloging, and circulation of print and digital resources
  • Collaborates with teachers to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum
  • Conducts regular sessions to teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively
  • Promotes digital literacy, ethical use of information, and responsible technology use
  • Stays updated on educational trends, curriculum changes, and new technologies
  • Selects and acquire a diverse range of print and digital resources that support the school's curriculum
  • Curates collections that reflect the interests and needs of the middle school population
  • Assists teachers in incorporating technology into their lessons
  • Manages and troubleshoot technology resources within the library and learning center
  • Stays informed about emerging educational technologies and trends
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and implement research projects and activities
  • Supports interdisciplinary projects that integrate media and information literacy skills
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative learning environment within the library and learning center
  • Develops and implement promotional activities to encourage library and learning center use
  • Communicates regularly with parents, teachers, and administrators about library and learning center initiatives
  • Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational and library trends
  • Attends workshops, conferences, and training sessions related to media and information literacy
  • Checks in and maintains records for laptops (1:1 and laptop carts)
  • Works with IT for any damages/repairs for laptops
  • Monitors status of overdue books and print overdue notices when required
  • Monitors interlibrary loans such as teacher requested materials between schools via the district mailing or use of public libraries
  • Repairs library materials as needed
  • Collects money for lost or damaged books, media, or laptops

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations, district procedures and Board policies
  • Knowledge of information literacy principles
  • Knowledge of educational technologies and digital resources
  • Ability to work effectively with students
  • Ability to do perform multiple administrative functions simultaneously
  • Ability to do mathematical computations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members
  • Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma required
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
  • Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance

Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Suite.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor office environment.This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies and the public.
