Position Overview


We are seeking a passionate and experienced Middle School English Teacher for the academic year. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with a deep love for literature and writing, capable of inspiring students to think critically, write effectively, and engage thoughtfully with the written word. Key Responsibilities


Instruction & Curriculum Development

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts lessons aligned with grade-level standards and learning objectives.
  • Teach a range of English topics including literature, grammar, composition, vocabulary, and public speaking.
  • Design lessons that promote reading comprehension, analytical thinking, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Differentiate instruction to support the diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests of middle school students.

Classroom & Student Management

  • Establish a well-managed, respectful, and disciplined classroom environment.
  • Communicate clear expectations for academic success and personal behavior.
  • Use assessments, feedback, and data to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Encourage student ownership of learning while providing support and structure.

Student Engagement & Communication

  • Foster a classroom culture that promotes curiosity, thoughtful dialogue, and a love of language and literature.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students that support their academic, personal, and spiritual growth.
  • Maintain consistent and transparent communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom updates.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, reinforcing Christian values and character development.

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Work closely with colleagues to support school-wide goals and curricular alignment.
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings, committees, and ongoing professional development.
  • Stay current with best practices in English instruction, middle school education, and educational technology.

School & Community Involvement

  • Take part in school events, programs, and faith-based activities that build community and school spirit.
  • Support and uphold the school's mission, values, and policies in and out of the classroom.
  • Encourage student participation in writing contests, presentations, and other enrichment opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements


Educational Background & Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Valid teaching credential and/or significant experience teaching English at the middle school level.

Instructional & Classroom Management Skills

  • Strong knowledge of English literature, grammar, writing instruction, and reading strategies.
  • Proven ability to create engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that foster critical thinking and literacy.
  • Effective classroom management skills, promoting a positive and respectful learning environment.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Passion for teaching and a dedication to student development and success.

Faith & Mission Alignment

  • Commitment to Merdinian's Christian mission and the integration of biblical values in teaching and relationships.
  • Familiarity with or openness to Armenian heritage and culture is a plus, but not required.
