The Live Oak School District was established in 1872 and currently serves approximately 1,700 students in three elementary schools, one middle school, one K-8 independent charter school, and one alternative school. Job Summary

Job Overview:

We seek a passionate and dedicated Culinary Arts Teacher to inspire middle school students through our hands-on Culinary Arts Elective program. The ideal candidate will teach students fundamental cooking skills, kitchen safety, nutrition, and food science while fostering a love for food and culinary creativity. This position provides the opportunity to engage students in interactive lessons that build both technical cooking expertise and an understanding of diverse cuisines and healthy eating habits.

Key Responsibilities:
-Develop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that focus on basic cooking techniques, nutrition, kitchen safety, and food science.
-Teach students how to prepare meals, understand ingredient substitutions, and use kitchen tools and equipment safely and effectively.
-Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and responsibility.
-Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their cooking skills and knowledge.
-Incorporate diverse global cuisines into lessons to expose students to different cultures and food traditions.
-Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment, ensuring that students follow proper hygiene and safety protocols.
-Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and classroom activities.
-Collaborate with other faculty and staff to integrate culinary lessons into broader curriculum goals and school events.
-Stay current with trends in culinary education, food safety, and nutrition, and incorporate this knowledge into lessons.

Live Oak School District accepts all years of teaching experience for placement on the salary schedule.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: CA Single Subject Teaching Credential (Industrial Arts) plus authorization to teach in other subject matters desirable, positive performance evaluations and demonstrated classroom success.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The middle school teacher is responsible for establishing standards of expected student progress in each area of study and for developing techniques for assessment of that progress; have complete classroom control and develop a suitable learning environment; supervision of materials, volunteer and para-professionals; accurate record keeping. This person will be expected to contribute to the development and achievement of District goals and school programs through active participation on teacher and parent committees, offering leadership in school and professional activities and maintaining effective, ethical, interpersonal relationships.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, and move kitchen equipment and supplies.
Must be able to safely work in a kitchen environment, handling hot surfaces, knives, and other kitchen tools.
