Job Overview: A prominent law firm based in San Francisco, CA is actively seeking a seasoned litigation attorney with a focus on patent and intellectual property disputes. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience managing complex cases, a proactive mindset, and a strong foundation in technologies related to electrical engineering or computer science. Duties:
- Lead and contribute to high-stakes patent litigation matters in federal court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)
- Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery responses across various phases of litigation
- Prepare and respond to infringement and invalidity contentions
- Participate in claim construction proceedings and prepare related filings
- Handle fact and expert discovery, including depositions and expert reports
- Develop and execute case strategy, including settlement, trial, and appeal considerations
- Oversee preparation of pre-trial materials such as exhibit lists, motions in limine, and witness outlines
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, and trials as needed
- Mentor junior associates and contribute to internal team development
Requirements:
- 4-8 years of direct patent litigation experience
- Substantial exposure to federal court litigation and PTAB proceedings
- Demonstrated ability to manage a case from pre-filing to resolution or appeal
- Experience with technical subject matter in software, hardware, or telecommunications
- Skilled in communicating with both technical and legal professionals
- Track record of professional independence and leadership on matters
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
- Admission to a state bar in good standing (California preferred)
- USPTO Registration Number is strongly preferred
