Job Title: Mid-Senior Level Patent Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A prominent law firm based in San Francisco, CA is actively seeking a seasoned litigation attorney with a focus on patent and intellectual property disputes. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience managing complex cases, a proactive mindset, and a strong foundation in technologies related to electrical engineering or computer science. This opportunity is presented by a legal recruiting firm on behalf of our client law firm.

Duties:

  1. Lead and contribute to high-stakes patent litigation matters in federal court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)
  2. Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery responses across various phases of litigation
  3. Prepare and respond to infringement and invalidity contentions
  4. Participate in claim construction proceedings and prepare related filings
  5. Handle fact and expert discovery, including depositions and expert reports
  6. Develop and execute case strategy, including settlement, trial, and appeal considerations
  7. Oversee preparation of pre-trial materials such as exhibit lists, motions in limine, and witness outlines
  8. Represent clients at hearings, mediations, and trials as needed
  9. Mentor junior associates and contribute to internal team development

Requirements:

  1. 4-8 years of direct patent litigation experience
  2. Substantial exposure to federal court litigation and PTAB proceedings
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage a case from pre-filing to resolution or appeal
  4. Experience with technical subject matter in software, hardware, or telecommunications
  5. Skilled in communicating with both technical and legal professionals
  6. Track record of professional independence and leadership on matters

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  1. Admission to a state bar in good standing (California preferred)
  2. USPTO Registration Number is strongly preferred

Skills:

  1. Strategic thinking and ability to manage complex litigation issues
  2. Excellent writing, research, and oral advocacy capabilities
  3. Detail-oriented approach to litigation preparation and client advising
  4. Strong organizational and time management abilities
  5. Capable of working effectively both independently and in collaborative team settings
  6. Adept at supervising junior colleagues and coordinating with co-counsels and clients
