Position
SAS has an opening for a Merchandise Planner. The Merchandise Planner will be responsible for all actively leading retail to achieve financial goals by identifying opportunities and risks to maximize profitability of the product assortment. This person will play a key role in helping the company achieve sales and inventory turn goals. The merchandise planner will report to the head of Retail and work with Retail, Wholesale, Sales operations, Forecasting and Production scheduling in order to maximize sales through excellent execution of all merchandise related areas.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop annual sales and inventory plans in dollars and units, consistent with the turnover objectives of the company and each individual business format.
- Create a methodology for optimally assorting stores based on geography, sizes and widths, sales velocity while taking into account store footprint.
- Ensure proper stock levels at each store location
- Maintain dynamic monitoring and reporting of actual performance to plan in dollars and units. Provide merchandising analysis to Senior Management.
- Establish and utilize best methods (statistical models and software tools) in creating store forecasts and inventory targets.
- Develop a clearance and markdown strategy.
- Visit stores and attend meetings and tradeshows.
- Develop action plans based on sales performance trends to impact line-planning process, influence assortment strategies and product merchandising.
- Provide analysis and reporting on product trends (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and seasonally) recapping noteworthy callouts by category, silhouette, fabrication, color, etc. and help to determine merchandising strategies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills: ability to communicate with high level executives.
- Strong analytical skills. Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word. Experience with Microsoft AX and Retail Pro.
- A self-starter with a strong ability to take initiative, ownership and accountability for the business with a high sense of urgency. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Team oriented with ability to multi-task. Leads and directs the work of others.
- Skilled in writing clear, concise, grammatically correct copy
- Ability to work in a team environment is essential and should be able to work well under pressure with crucial deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
- Must be able to sit or stand for 8 - 10 hours.
- Manual dexterity and coordination
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer, visual inspection, and prepare and analyze projects.
- Comfortable using a computer.
Education & Experience Requirements
- College degree preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Merchandise Planning and/or Accessories Buying in a retail environment, preferably in shoes industry or fashion merchandising.
