About the Facility: Sullivan Memorial Blood Center Nestled within Fort Moore, the Sullivan Memorial Blood Center stands as a lifeline for soldiers and their families, providing essential blood products to support military medical facilities. Dedicated to saving lives, this state-of-the-art center offers whole blood donations, platelet collections, and specialized blood products for trauma care and surgeries. Facility Address: MACH Bldg. 9250, Fort Moore, GA 31905 Medical Laboratory Technician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to) The MLT performs laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood banking. Rotates through various sections of the blood Donor Center and on blood drives in remote locations. Independently performs standardized clinical laboratory tests and procedures appropriate to blood banking. Performs personal interviews to obtain medical histories and visual inspections of blood donors, ensuring donors meet all FDA criteria and current manufacturing practices. Determines eligibility of potential donors based on judgment and in accordance with SOP and regulatory guidelines. Screens subects donating blood (e.g., volunteer blood donors, autologous and therapeutic patients) and exercise care to ensure their blood is at a safe level prior to being used. Strips, segments, weighs, and stores whole blood units. Records information, such as time of started and stopped drawing blood. Prepares samples to be sent to testing laboratory. Receives and reviews test results, ensuring proper procedures are followed if irregulatiries or tests discrepancies are found. Stocks blood donor, blood processing, and blood product manufacturing supplies and mobile equipment. Ensure stock levels are adequate. Perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests in any one or a combination of the following sections of the laboratory: hematology and blood bank. Other related duties assigned. Medical Laboratory Technician - REQUIREMENTS US Citizenship is required. Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field from a NAACLS- or ABHES-accredited program. Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting or in any one or a combination of the following sections: hematology, chemistry, cytology, histology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and bloodbank. Shall be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT). Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
