About ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, a campus of ECU Health Medical Center

ECU Health Beaufort Hospital serves as a campus of ECU Health Medical Center. The 142-bed full-service hospital is located in Washington and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center. It is home to a 16-bed emergency department that serves approximately 25,000 patients per year, as well as the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center a provider of leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services. ECU Health Beaufort also offers general medical and surgical services, operative services, a womens birthing center, rehabilitation services and outpatient clinics.

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

As a MLT, you will:

Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.

Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.

Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.

Assist in orientation or training of new or less experienced employees or students.

Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.

Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.

Work alternate shifts as required.

Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required. Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.

2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician

Or 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory as Medical Laboratory Technician and certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency

Other Information

40 hours per week
12 hour shifts (7:30 am - 8 pm)
Required to work a weekend rotational schedule for every 5th weekend
Required to work a rotational on-call for every 10th week
