Description
Responsibilities:
- Installation and Configuration: Set up, configure, and test fiber-optic networks and associated equipment, including optical transmission systems, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) devices, amplifiers, and optical switches.
- Maintenance and Diagnostics: Conduct routine maintenance and diagnostics on optical laser systems to ensure peak performance. Quickly identify issues, troubleshoot faults, and implement effective solutions.
- Field Service Operations: Travel to client locations to install, inspect, repair, and upgrade optical networking equipment. Work closely with customers to resolve on-site issues, minimizing downtime.
- System Upgrades: Carry out hardware and software upgrades for optical networking systems, ensuring compatibility and optimizing performance when integrating new components into existing infrastructures.
- Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, issue reports, and service logs. Keep detailed documentation of equipment configurations, network layouts, and repair histories.
- Customer Engagement: Deliver outstanding customer service by addressing client inquiries, explaining system features, and ensuring satisfaction with the services provided. Offer post-installation support and training as necessary.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to industry standards and safety protocols during installations and repairs. Ensure all work aligns with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Development: Stay current with advancements in optical networking technologies and best practices. Engage in ongoing training and professional development programs.
Profile
Ideal Candidate:
- Educational Background: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant fiber optics certifications (e.g., CFOT, FOA) are advantageous.
- Professional Experience: 2-5 years of experience in optical network installations, troubleshooting, and field service operations, with a preference for experience in WDM systems and optical amplifiers.
- Testing Proficiency: Skilled in using fiber-optic testing tools such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters, and light sources.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of optical laser systems and familiarity with network management systems (NMS) and remote monitoring tools.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, facilitating effective collaboration with team members and clients.
- Teamwork and Independence: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in team settings to achieve project goals.
