Functions and Responsibilities

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology or designee, the Media Services Technical Support Assistant is responsible for providing media support services at both the Newark (main) and West Essex (West Caldwell) campuses. This includes tasks such as repairing and installing equipment, assisting with events, and managing the delivery and collection of equipment.

Supervisory Role

Oral and written instructions are received from the Director of Information Technology or designee.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operating and managing multimedia equipment: This encompasses the use of projectors, audio systems, video conferencing tools, and various audiovisual devices.

2. Technical assistance: Providing support to users with equipment during events, meetings, and presentations.

3. Troubleshooting and upkeep: Identifying and resolving issues with audiovisual equipment, conducting regular maintenance, and ensuring all systems operate effectively.

4. User training and assistance: Instructing users on the operation of multimedia equipment and offering continuous support.

5. Equipment inventory management: Monitoring equipment, overseeing check-outs and returns, and ensuring all items are in optimal working condition.

6. Event technical support: Facilitating the technical requirements of events, including the setup, operation, and dismantling of equipment.

7. Upholding confidentiality and security regarding student and staff records.

8. Compiling routine, special, and supplementary reports as necessary.

9. Executing other related tasks as needed.

Additional Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. An associate's degree or equivalent technical qualification.

2. Experience in operating and troubleshooting multimedia equipment, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of media software and tools

3. Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently

4. Good organizational skills to manage equipment inventory and support multiple tasks simultaneously.

5. Demonstrated capability to engage professionally and effectively with students, staff, and non-staff members of the college community.

4. Excellent interpersonal skills.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

6. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education Requirements
Associate's Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver's license, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. An associate's degree or equivalent technical qualification, including a certification in media services or a related field.

2. Two or more years experience in media and instructional technology at a higher education institution, ideally within a community college setting.
