Description The Automation Specialist is a technical sales support role responsible for applying automation expertise to assist sales teams and customers throughout the solution development process. This includes supporting product selection, conducting technical demonstrations, and ensuring smooth implementation of automation systems.
As part of a highly collaborative sales and technical team, this role requires strong communication skills, a solution-oriented mindset, and a commitment to shared success. The Automation Specialist works closely with Account Managers, Territory Managers, and vendor partners to deliver best-in-class automation solutions that drive customer value.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:Key Responsibilities: - Assist Account Managers with customer needs analysis and solution recommendations.
- Conduct product demonstrations, training, and technical presentations.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure successful implementations.
- Troubleshoot standard automation issues and support post-sales efforts.
- Maintain awareness of market trends and contribute to proposal development.
- Support key corporate initiatives and all technology divisions for the advancement of the Livingston & Haven organization
- Work within the Livingston & Haven framework and business philosophies, while providing an entrepreneurial approach to growing your business
Responsibilities in the areas of Standard Product and Vendor Management are: - Promoting product, especially Standard Product where they exist for a vendor
- Riding with vendor reps
- Coordinate Special Price contracts with the Product Manager and work directly with the vendor to renew the contracts
- Developing engineered solutions that include Standard Product

Education - Minimum Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with a degree in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or related field; or 2-5 years of experience in control systems, industrial automation, or technical field support; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Engineering or Applied Technology
- Additional related training preferred

- Proficient in developing, writing, and troubleshooting automation code (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, CODESYS)
- Solid understanding of electrical design and industrial communication protocols
- Excellent technical communication and documentation skills
- Ability to translate technical needs into practical, customer-ready solutions
- Strong organizational and project coordination abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD Electrical experience a plus
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities simultaneously
Language Ability • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Math Ability: • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel. Must be able to learn and use the Livingston & Haven Apogee System.
