Job Title: Mechanical Technician III

Location: Concord, NC (Onsite)

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Travel: Occasional travel within North Carolina

Remote Work: Occasional remote work based on manager discretion and performance


Position Summary:

Corning is seeking a Mechanical Technician III to support the development and equipment management group responsible for automated manufacturing platforms at our Concord, NC facility. The technician will be responsible for maintaining technical accuracy in equipment documentation, supporting process improvements, and interacting with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the smooth operation of automation systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CAD Department to ensure 2D and 3D equipment drawings are technically accurate and conform to ASME and Corning drafting standards.
  • Resolve and document obsolescence issues with internal technical teams and external suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate equipment BOMs, stockroom parts lists, and associated documentation using Engineering and Document Change processes.
  • Create part drawings and 3D models to support minor equipment changes and process improvement efforts.
  • Support development projects through hands-on involvement with automation equipment and follow-up monitoring.
  • Liaise with machine shops to clarify drawings and address machining issues.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automated equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Drafting/CAD
  • (or 5+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree)
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
  • 3-5 years' experience working with automated equipment systems, including:
  • Air cylinders, valves, sensors, motors, and drives
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand/power tools and measurement equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with electrical control systems (a plus, but not required)
