Job Summary
The mechanical project engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing mechanical engineering projects. This position oversees the mechanical aspects of diverse projects, ensuring they meet specifications, deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. Their responsibilities include coordinating production teams, designing engineering systems, testing, and building prototypes. They work in collaboration with cross functional teams to develop mechanical systems, troubleshoot existing designs, and suggest alternative solutions

Primary Functions and Duties

• Perform studies and calculations for the installation or renovation of mechanical systems

• Undertake Mechanical engineering design from concept through detailed design phases

• Obtain firm quotations from equipment vendors and contractors or estimate costs for the proposed installation or renovation work

• Coordinate the efforts of installation technicians and mechanics engaged in mechanical system installation and modification to ensure a cost effective and timely completion

• Act as project manager for projects as deemed necessary

• Monitoring and commissioning /handover of Mechanical systems

• Issuing of working drawings/safety and quality documentation in line with industry Policies and Procedures

• Assists and aides on implementation of processes and procedures the Process Engineer may need during SOPs creation and implementation

• Proactively provide guidance and direction for mechanical engineering

• Interpret, apply and provide direction to larger assigned tasks

• Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work

• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working environment by complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other related fields is required.

• 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment preferably with extrusion.

• 5 years of experience in the design or installation of mechanical systems.

• Experience leading measurable, successful improvement initiatives.

• Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.

• Hands on work or project experience, extrusion, plastics, assembly, or cutting applications preferred.

• Background in single screw extrusion profiles preferred.

• Background in pipe or wire and cable proficiency in flexible PVC and TPEs preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Access).

• Lean training and/or certification preferred.

• Experience and knowledge of Six Sigma is a plus.

• Knowledge of 3D printing and rapid prototyping is a plus
