Position Summary

The Mechanical Manager plays a critical role in driving the efficiency, safety, and innovation of our high-volume satellite production. This role ensures the seamless operation of mechanical systems within the Final Assembly Line (FAL) and other production lines, fostering collaboration across teams to maintain high performance standards. The Mechanical Manager contributes to the organization's competitive edge by overseeing a team of engineers, optimizing processes, and implementing mechanical solutions that enhance satellite manufacturing. This role is integral to maintaining quality, supporting new programs, and aligning mechanical operations with the company's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for all mechanical activities for the Final Assembly Line (FAL) and all production lines.
  2. Manage a team of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineers and Mechanical Design Engineers, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  3. Oversee maintenance and calibration of mechanical systems and equipment.
  4. Develop and manage the team responsible for work instructions, station workflow and MGSE design to enhance manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness.
  5. Coordinate with engineers and ensure proper implementation of off-nominal instructions on mechanical flight hardware.
  6. Accountable for changes in the FAL design or process modifications and oversee the improvement and maintenance of the FAL mechanical systems and production stations.
  7. Provide leadership for new programs assessing FAL workstations design, proposal, and processes.
  8. Develop comprehensive familiarity and expertise with manufacturing processes, satellite configurations, and manufacturing requirements across all products and stations.
  9. Deconflict business needs, manage resources, and provide direction and instructions to ensure alignment with organizational goals and efficient project execution.
Managerial Responsibilities
  1. Define and manage team priorities, translating company objectives into team and individual goals with regular progress reviews and evaluations.
  2. Anticipate team workload and adjust headcount as needed, ensuring understanding and adherence to job descriptions and expectations.
  3. Liaise with Human Resources to set up development plans and support the team in professional growth and adherence to organizational processes.
Technical Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate with Quality, MGSE & Mechanical Support, and Flight Design Engineering for implementation of design and process changes, as well as non-conformance management.
  2. Accountable for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the mechanical systems such a photogrammetry and thermal systems, smart torquing equipment, etc.
  3. Coordinate with MGSE & Mechanical Support for maintenance execution, training and other functions as necessary.
  4. Provide support Production Quality Engineering on work instruction reviews, Process Failure Mode Engineering Analysis (PFMEA), and First Article Inspections (FAI).
  5. Identify process and design failure modes and propose corrective actions and solutions.
Qualifications Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing) or similar; Master's Degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, with significant leadership and team management experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
  • Demonstrated expertise with mechanical systems and familiarity with spacecraft flight hardware handling and maintenance.
  • Experience working in a clean room environment and understanding of precision cleaning and handling of clean hardware/systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, able to plan and accomplish objectives while multitasking and prioritizing.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and understanding both written and electronic procedures and technical documents in English. Verbal French or Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to work, demonstrating flexibility and self-discipline.
Travel Required:

Up to 10% travel required

U.S. Citizenship required

Clearance:

Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance

Active DoD security clearance at Top Secret/ SCI desirable

  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
