Job Description: Nightwing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at our Springfield, Virginia location for a mission support and technology development program. The candidate will work with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team consisting of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers to develop engineering solutions from conceptualization through prototype development, testing, documentation, and production of deliverables. Job Duties: The successful applicant will have excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts and design practice and be responsible for product design, engineering analysis, production drawings, vendor fabrication of prototype hardware, and procedure development. The position requires distilling information for audiences to prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews. In addition to these technical responsibilities, the engineer may also support the Program Manager in handling the technical, cost, and schedule requirements of current tasks, as well as contribute to the strategy and vision for future tasks based on customer need. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, innovative, have strong communication skills, and work well with engineers, technicians, and customer staff. Responsibilities and Required Skills: Candidate must be eligible for a Top Secret/SCI security clearance
Minimum eight (5) years' prior relevant experience in an engineering role or related field with a University Degree OR five (3) years' prior relevant experience in an engineering role or related field with an Advanced Degree.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing often widely different project tasks and types
Proficient with material mechanics and engineering dynamics
Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo) and creation of technical drawings
Experience with test planning, reports, and/or procedure documentation
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to travel to temporary assignments outside of the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area. Travel Working knowledge of hand and powered tools and general construction practices Desired Skills: Possess an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance
Prior experience with fabrication and assembly working in a wood or metal shop environment
Experience with electro-mechanical systems, automation, and/or sensors
Ability to use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping with frequent integration/test cycles
Passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Profession Engineering licensure
