About the Role

Ascent AeroSystems is currently looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role will collaborate with engineering and operations to meet design and build goals and objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components and systems, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards. The ideal candidate is a roll-up-your-sleeves, high energy, collaborative UAS enthusiast who works well on a team and individually.


Responsibilities

  • Create conceptual designs and prototypes from customer requirements and specifications.
  • Create validation and verification tests and document results.
  • Formulate product roadmaps that go from prototype to production at scale.
  • Redesign parts for improved manufacturability. For example, redesigning a machined part to be injection molded.
  • Analysis of structures to reduce mass and optimize performance.
  • Draft production level documentation such as engineering drawings, test plans, and assembly instructions.
  • Providing technical support during product manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot nonconformances and implement corrective actions for products being produced at scale.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
  • Contribute to RFPs, RFIs and other contract-related work as assigned.
  • Maintain expert level knowledge of our products, including their specifications, capabilities, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in UAS technology.
  • Help resolve customer technical support issues, including some field travel to help customers with demos and other events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Able to conduct simple hand-calculations on loaded structures to approximate safety factors.
  • Familiarity with configuration management of parts and assemblies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to UAS system engineering.
  • Project management experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience and interest in UAS or other robotics systems.
  • Especially, experience with ArduPilot based systems.
  • Part 107 License

Pay range and compensation package

This position is expected to include a base salary between $130K and $150K.
