This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at the Westinghouse facility in Rock Hill, SC approximately 45-minutes south of Charlotte, NC. No relocation will be provided for this position. Your Day-to-Day: Performs a variety of technical tasks in support of engineering, procurement and construction activities for new power plant technologies. Includes Westinghouse's flagship AP1000 design, AP300TM small modular reactor (SMR) design, eVinciTM microreactor design and Pumped Thermal Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) design. Performs a variety of technical tasks in support of engineering, procurement and implementation activities to maintain long-term operations of existing power plants. Existing plant technologies include legacy Westinghouse designs. Work activities include collecting and compiling data for design development, technical summaries and project reports, assisting in proposal efforts as directed, documenting technical data for management review, assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages for clients, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities include design of thermal-fluid systems, equipment sizing and specification, procurement package development, incorporation of supplier data, and coordination with other disciplines for an integrated engineering approach. Other duties include collection and interpretation of technical data with engineering summaries and/or reports as a work product, support basis of engineering design development, perform site walkdowns, review and interpret design drawings, manage, maintain and incorporate design changes, respond to engineering support requests, and other duties as required. Must ensure all work conforms to applicable codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures. Position will adhere to a hybrid work model, reporting to the Rock Hill, SC office a minimum of 3 days per week. Flexibility exists with choice of days in office as well as opportunity for a 9/80 work week. Who You Are: As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required Minimum 3.0 GPA 1-3 years of professional experience Ability to understand and interpret applicable codes, standards and regulations is required Familiarity with mechanical engineering design codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, ASHRAE, HEI, etc) as well as procurement processes a plus. Familiarity with Federal Codes (CFRs') as well as NRC standards and regulations a plus. Prior knowledge, interest and experience with energy storage systems and nuclear-coupled, beyond-electricity applications a plus (e.g. electrolysis hydrogen production, district heating/energy, thermal power dispatch, etc) Basic understanding of the impact and interrelationship of other disciplines' drawings (e.g., Electrical, Civil, and Structural) on design Ability and willingness to travel to project sites for short term assignments lasting from a couple days to 6+ months. These site support efforts are where skills are developed at a rapid pace and experience gained. This position also has the expectation that the engineer will be working toward a professional engineering license. Having passed the EIT/FE exam although not required is a plus. Position requires ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to power plants. Microsoft Product skill sets required at an advanced level- so a strong ability to work within WORD and EXCEL. Experience with software modeling tools a plus (e.g. thermal/hydraulic products, FEA products, transient analysis products, 3D modeling products, complex mathematical modeling products, etc) Excellent communication skills are required for collaboration in a distributed team environment. Although this position will have a local presence, teammates and specialists are dispersed internationally. This may require occasional availability during non-traditional work hours to accommodate meetings in another time-zone. Why Westinghouse?
