Mechanical Engineer Location: Kiel, WI
Employment Type: Full-time, Direct Hire
Department: Engineering Reports to: Engineering Manager About the Role: We are looking for a talented and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and developing the next generation of paper converting machinery. You'll work across departments to bring ideas to life-from concept through production-while ensuring high-quality, innovative, and efficient solutions. Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop new machinery and improve existing equipment.
• Create accurate part, assembly, and schematic drawings using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Lead and participate in design reviews and project planning meetings.
• Develop documentation such as BOMs, flow charts, and orientation drawings for production release.
• Evaluate and test materials and mechanical systems.
• Stay current on industry trends and new technologies.
• Collaborate with automation engineers to ensure proper system integration.
• Communicate with manufacturing, assembly, and service departments to resolve design challenges.
• Generate accurate technical documentation for customer manuals.
• Review and correct engineering designs, process change requests, and implement improvements.
• Support project estimations by assessing feasibility, time, and costs. Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Associate degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks (or comparable 3D CAD); PDM system experience is a plus.
• Experience in OEM manufacturing or with web-handling systems is preferred.
• Strong understanding of engineering and manufacturing standards.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent communication, documentation, and technical writing skills.
• Strong problem-solving, reasoning, and organizational skills.
• Proficient in math and geometry, including trigonometry and statistics.
• Comfortable operating standard office and development/test equipment. Physical Requirements:
• Frequently required to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
• Occasionally lift and move parts, components, or documentation up to 25 lbs.
• Visual ability to focus, adjust, and interpret technical drawings. Work Environment:
• Office-like setting with extended computer use.
• Occasional presence on the shop floor near large, loud machinery.
