We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our client in Gourock. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering maintenance and repair services to support our client s fleet of Major and Small Vessels. The role holder will ensure all work is carried out safely, productively and with no detrimental environmental impact.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT Essential: - A Mechanical Engineering qualification, or vocational training to at least National Diploma level, (or equivalent).
- At least 5 years experience of providing mechanical engineering repair and maintenance support, preferably in a marine engineering setting.
- Broad experience of repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment including:
- Modern high speed diesel engines (Volvo Penta D-series, Cummins CT and KT series, Perkins, Mitsubishi etc.).
- High and low volume fluid pumps (fire/ general service pumps, lubrication pumps etc.).
- High torque couplings, including alignment.
- Gearboxes.
- Broad knowledge and wide understanding of materials, trades methods and legal requirements.
- High attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials.
- Some experience and knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001).
- Excellent organisation and communication skills. Ability to work and lead within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to competently utilise Microsoft suit of products including Excel and Word for reporting and communicating.
- This role requires a full driving licence (without exception).
Desirable: - A Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Seagoing experience of operating, maintaining & repairing marine mechanical equipment.
- Hydraulic systems maintenance and repair experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION Accountable for: - Carrying out mechanical engineering works onboard vessels & workshop
- Ensure own compliance with all safety and environment policies & procedures
- Ensure all works are carried in-line with class & statutory requirements
- Ensuring all works and services are provided in accordance with the Fleet Management Manual and wider policies and procedures
- Ensure that all mechanical engineering work is conducted safely, efficiently and right first time
- Ensure all mechanical work requests received are routed via Works Management processes
Field-Service Operations: - Ensure all works are planned to ensure all the essential elements required to successfully complete work on time, at the lowest cost, while achieving the necessary work quality
- Ensure all works are scheduled in cooperation with the Planning & Workshop Controller
- Ensure when deployed risk assessments and method statements are provided in accordance with; the appropriate vessel operating manual (VOM); or repair yard, health & safety requirements
- Ensure tests of equipment & tools are in-date for test and calibration before carrying out works.
Workshop Operations: - Workshop work must be carried out in full compliance with the arrangements and standards detailed in:
- Fleet Management Manual.
- Workshop Operations & Safety Manual.
- Work Instruction on Workshop Housekeeping & Cleanliness
- Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to utilise workshop equipment.
General: - Fully comply with the company s safety policies and procedures and constructively challenge any observed, or reported, unsafe behaviour.
- Ensure all accidents, near misses are timeously reported in-line with company policy.
- Execute the delivery of annually set objectives and personal development plan.
- Participate in one-to-ones with Senior Engineer; and at least two performance reviews per year.
- Any other tasks and duties required by manager, where the role holder is deemed safe and competent to undertake those tasks and duties.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE ON OFFER Salary: £56,680.00 per annum. Benefits (including 37 days annual leave (pro-rata), staff travel pass and an industry leading pension).
