Mechanical Design Engineer Shape Low-Carbon Solutions from Concept to Technical Delivery
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer ready to move beyond conceptual work and into real-world delivery? We're offering an opportunity to take a hands-on role in designing renewable heat systems and energy-efficient HVAC solutions with a clear focus on RIBA Stages 3 and 4.

You'll join a growing decarbonisation team tackling complex engineering challenges in retrofit and new-build environments, with projects that support the UK's transition to net zero.

As a key part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll focus on developing robust technical designs and turning strategic intent into build-ready solutions.

This includes:

  • Leading mechanical design development through RIBA Stage 3 (Spatial Coordination) and Stage 4 (Technical Design) for energy centres, plant rooms, and heat network systems.
  • Engineering low-carbon systems: commercial heat pumps, high-efficiency HVAC, and integrated control strategies.
  • Creating and coordinating detailed 3D models using AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks, and thermal simulation tools (e.g. IES VE, Hysopt, EnergyPRO).
  • Producing engineering calculations, specifications, and design risk assessments that hold up under real-world scrutiny.
  • Working closely with electrical, civil, structural, and energy specialists to deliver fully coordinated and practical solutions.
  • Supporting non-invasive surveys and interpreting site data to feed into technical design.

About you

  • Solid understanding of mechanical building services and HVAC system design principles.
  • Proven experience working through RIBA 3 and 4 stages, ideally on low-carbon or retrofit projects.
  • Knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulations, and HVAC legislation.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office; familiarity with design simulation tools (IES, Hysopt, etc.).
  • Strong awareness of CDM and health & safety in design.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, contribute to reports, and lead sections of technical documentation.

Why join

  • Focus on technical design and engineering delivery not just early-stage consultancy.
  • Join a team with real capability in energy transition, heat decarbonisation, and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Work on projects that matter - low-carbon buildings, energy centres, district heat, and smart controls.
  • Be supported in your career growth with access to training, certifications, and mentoring.
  • Join the future of engineering and get in touch
