We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong CAD design skills and hands-on CNC machining knowledge. This role sits at the intersection of design and manufacturing, supporting the development and repair of FAA-regulated aerospace components.

The ideal candidate understands how parts are engineered, how they're machined, and how to optimize both the design and the manufacturing process-particularly for reverse-engineering, prototyping, and FAA-compliant repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and revise 3D models and 2D technical drawings for aircraft parts and tooling using SolidWorks or similar CAD tools

  • Collaborate with CNC machinists to develop manufacturable designs, including fixtures and jigs for aerospace components

  • Assist in reverse engineering of legacy or non-supported OEM parts, ensuring FAA Part 145 compliance

  • Translate design intent into CAM programs and assist with CNC setup, tooling selection, and machining process validation

  • Generate BOMs, support ECNs, and maintain all documentation in accordance with FAA, AS9100, and company standards

  • Work closely with Repair, Quality, and Production teams to troubleshoot and improve parts and processes

  • Support cost-reduction, process improvement, and first-article inspection efforts

Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience in design engineering within aerospace, aviation MRO, or a regulated manufacturing environment

  • Hands-on experience with CNC machining (milling and/or turning) and a solid understanding of shop floor operations

  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred); familiarity with CAM programming is a strong plus

  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, materials, tolerances, and machining best practices

  • Familiarity with FAA Part 145 repair requirements, and understanding of aviation quality standards (AS9100, ISO, etc.)

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with DER repairs, PMA development, or FAA-approved engineering practices

  • CAM programming experience (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)

  • Background in components such as generators, hydraulic systems, brakes, or flight control surfaces
