The Role of the Mechanical Design Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and development of electric motors, transmissions, and powertrains at various stages of development.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead the full development of motor projects, from concepts to detailed designs, ensuring design feasibility and manufacturability.

  • Utilise standard CAD software to produce drawings of parts, components, and assemblies, conducting function and tolerance stack analysis.

  • Ensure compliance with design practices, guidelines, and other limiting factors such as clearances and tooling requirements.

  • Engage with suppliers to introduce practical and cost-effective designs while staying abreast of engineering trends in the supply chain.


About You Mechanical Design Engineer

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will bring a solid background in mechanical engineering and a proven track record in electrical design and testing for electric motor systems, preferably within the automotive industry.


Other requirements include:

  • BEng degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a relevant discipline, or demonstrable industrial experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of engineering design techniques.

  • Experience in designing parts and assemblies for mass manufacture.

  • Ability to produce complex engineering solutions and lead project work, coaching junior engineers.

  • Awareness of APQP processes, NPI, Quality Management Systems, and ISO 9001 specifics.
