Overview The Campus Development Division delivers the PNNL campus strategy to provide laboratory facilities and infrastructure aligned with our cutting-edge science and technology research mission. The division provides the planning, architecture, engineering, and design services critical to delivering unique and modern research facilities. We also centrally manage laboratory and office space and relocations to optimize usage across our campuses. Campus Development is leading a 10-year recapitalization of PNNL's campus exceeding $1.2 billion. We rely on the partnerships between research and operations to identify, fund and design the most impactful campus projects and work closely with our project management team to deliver. Responsibilities Responsible for providing discipline specific engineering expertise including engineering studies, preliminary, conceptual and detailed design, project management, estimating, calculations, troubleshooting, preparation of contract documents including drawings and specifications, and field inspections for all PNNL facilities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: + BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR- + MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience Preferred Qualifications: + A strong foundation in building mechanical engineering with 10 year's experience in an architecture and engineering firm, complemented by a leadership spirit. + Experience in HVAC, ductwork, plumbing, and Central Utility Plant design. + Experience with relevant Codes (ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, IPC). + Direct knowledge and experience in writing engineering specifications, developing mechanical details, and writing sequences of operation for HVAC systems. + Track record of preparing and managing design engineering budgets, schedules, and staff resources. + LEED or equivalent DOE High Performance Sustainable Building Standard experience. + Experience with institutional research laboratory layout and design. + Experience with direct digital Facility Management Control System design (HVAC system control). + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Experience with hourly energy modeling programs. + Design experience with equipment including: cooling towers, chillers, heat recovery chillers, gas fired and electric water boilers, packaged and custom HVAC units, air-source & water-source heat pumps, dehumidifiers, fans, pumps, heat exchangers (shell/tube, plate/frame, brazed fin), control valves and + associated instrumentation. + Design experience with systems including variable exhaust and supply, combustible dust collection, air to air, air to water and water to water heat recovery, general and process exhaust, DOAS, ventilation and general HVAC. + ICC Inspection certification in building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing + AutoCAD or REVIT design and drafting skills, MS Office Software skills.
