The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Materials & Process Engineer-Electrical PM&P to support Boeing Defense & Space Systems, located in El Segundo, CA. We are looking for a broad range of experience including Associate, Mid-level and Senior MP&P Engineers. The El Segundo site designs and builds advanced space and communication systems for military, commercial, and scientific uses, including advanced digital payload, all electric propulsion and 3D manufacturing capabilities for spacecraft that can operate in the geosynchronous, medium-Earth orbit of low Earth orbital planes. The Materials and Process Group in El Segundo develops, provides and maintains technical competency and integrity in the definition, evaluation, analysis, management, selection and control of materials, processes, and parts. The ideal candidate has a background with materials science and experience with printed writing boards, electronic components, and assembly-level operations (soldering, conformal coat, underfill). Position Responsibilities: Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
Promotes standardization across business activities
Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
Integrates new technologies as appropriate
Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes
Knowledge of Parts, Materials and Processes related to Electrical, Electronic, Electro-mechanical, Electro-optical commodities.
Knowledge of analytical processes, construction, integration and performance evaluation.
Knowledge of Parts, Materials and Processes management and control, producibility, application limitations, packaging and handling, radiation effects, reliability, failure modes, failure analysis and techniques, instrumentation, assembly and repair methods, obsolescence, drawings and fabrication, screening and qualification, derating.
Implements corrective and preventive actions
Provides technical program support for printed writing boards, electronic components, and assembly-level operations (soldering, conformal coat, underfill)
Self-starter takes full ownership of projects across various scales, ensuring successful planning execution and delivery while managing resources, timelines and stakeholder communication
Ensure alignment on project technical direction, scope, and schedule
Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. TS/SCI clearance Post-Start is required.
Experience working in a laboratory environment
Experience with stakeholder relationship management
Experience with laboratory analysis techniques such as cross sectioning, microscopy, metallography, SEM, and XRF).
Experience with printed writing boards, electronic components, and assembly-level operations (soldering, conformal coat, underfill)
Experience authoring formal technical reports
Experience interpreting technical requirements and specifications Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with destructive and non-destructive evaluation of electronics
Experience in developing, documenting, and executing DOEs for material and process risk reduction and qualification efforts
Active TS/SCI clearance
Graduate or Post-Graduate laboratory analysis techniques such as cross sectioning, microscopy, metallography, SEM, and XRF
Experience leading technical projects
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with product design and manufacturing teams
Possesses technical expertise in printed writing boards, electronic components, and assembly-level operations (soldering, conformal coat, underfill)
