General Responsibilities
  • Receive all supplies, materials and equipment delivered to the central receiving dock and deliver as directed throughout the college
  • Perform related record keeping and clerical work
  • Pick up and deliver internal and U.S. mail to and from locations throughout the college's main campus and the Laurel College Center
  • Sort internal and external mail
  • Pick up and deliver mail to the Columbia, MD, U.S. Postal Office
  • Operate computerized mail machines
  • Deliver print shop jobs
  • Move supplies and materials from campus storage areas and deliver as assigned
Work Performed
  • Pick and deliver U.S. Postal Service mail to and from campus 2x per day
  • Sort and prepare HCC internal mail and external incoming/outgoing U.S. postal service mail
  • Deliver print shop jobs, distribute supplies and materials as needed
  • Deliver bulk schedules and catalogs, check and process bulk mail for delivery to the postal service
  • Receive and deliver U.P.S., Fedex, Office Depot and etc. shipments/deliveries and maintain related record keeping tasks
  • Receive and inventory supplies, materials and equipment on the receiving dock and deliver to assigned campus locations
  • Perform other related clerical work and duties as required
Minimum Education Required
High School or equivalent

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year's work experience required
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to use computerized mail machines, fax, and copier
  • Basic word processing skills, computer skills, and voice mail
  • One year's experience in mail delivery and materials handling, preferred
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to handle the pressure of a fast- pace changing workload
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job
  • Valid Maryland driver's license
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and effectively with college personnel of all levels

Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

Working Conditions

Extreme weather conditions due to operating the receiving dock and picking up and delivering mail to the Postal Office and to campus sites in all kinds of weather. Lifting up to 50 pounds from the ground up to waist high and stacking on a cart 8" off the ground. Driving college vehicle in heavy traffic. Work schedule is 40 hours a week.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
