For Spring 2025 we will only hire from this posting


We plan to hire Work Study and Student Assistants, for the Library:
The work will include: project work like moving Books, heavy lifting, moving carts, moving shelves, replacing books, scanning photos, entering data on spread sheets, covering the front desk, answering patron questions, Covering the 1st floor Desk. working in the upper floors as needed.

For Spring 2025 , your duties will require:

• Good customer service skills

• Ability to help Lamar students with their library needs.

• Microsoft Office experience with a focus on Excel and Word.

• Use of copy machines, fax machines, printers, computers, scanners, and cash registers.

• Daily shelving of library books.

• Straightening the books in the library.

• Straightening the tables and chairs in library.

• Opening and closing library per the student's availability.

• Performance of other tasks as assigned.
Also we will hire for project work which will included

• moving a large amount of books per Day

• boxing up books to move to a secondary location

• moving the metal shelves.

• moving items to the trash dumpster.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Library is open Late Nights and Weekends. Before you apply, please understand all student workers will be working some nights and some Saturdays and Sundays as your schedule permits.

Minimum Qualifications
as class schedule permits you can help with some of these shifts:

•flexible schedule so you can help on Sunday

•flexible schedule so you can help on Saturday
•flexible schedule so you can help cover late nights "as late as 2am "
•flexible schedule so you can help cover evening shift

•flexible schedule so you can help cover morning shift

•flexible schedule so you can help cover the day shift
Other Qualifications

• Ability to use a cash register and handle cash

• Ability to learn the library software "Workflows"

• Ability to use Internet Browsers Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer.

• Experience with Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel.

• Ability to help students use BlackBoard.

• Ability to work Library hours which could will include days, nights and weekends as your schedule permits.

Physical Requirements:


• Some heavy lifting is required.

• Moving books on a cart.

• Moving tables and chairs.

• Take trash and paper to dumpster.

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

• Project work will include heavy lifting. For Spring 2024we could have more project work than usual.

Work Hours:

starting at an average of 10 hours a week, can earn more as experience grows

Job Conditions:


• General Busy office setting.

• Sometimes like a retail store.

• also we will have project work at times. example ( move large amounts of books to the outside trash. )

Additional Instructions for Applicants:


• There are 2 types of student positions on campus. all Students need to be a full time student

  • Work study Student, student that qualified for work-study funding, see financial aid, this is mostly Texas resident students. in general this is approved by financial aid, and will show in your banner account. If you're not sure if you are eligible, please check with Financial Aid.
  • Student Assistant, any undergrad Student or Graduate student with full time hours



• As Class Schedule permits, hours needed to cover could include:

• Nights up to 12:15 am midnight & sometime as late as 2:15 am,


• morning
as early as 7 am

Student Workers will help cover Saturdays and Sundays as needed, not all but you will be needed to cover some Saturdays and Sundays.

• This position will remain open for until End of April 2025 , as we are always looking for help with the right availability. We will re-post sometime in May 2025 to give students the chance to re-apply with updated information.
