Description
The Marketing Specialist supports the execution of marketing strategies to promote public transit services and strengthen community engagement for the Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA). This position is responsible for developing content across multiple platforms, coordinating outreach efforts, and assisting in the design and production of marketing materials.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
• Design digital and print marketing materials using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
• Assist in maintaining WSTA's website, social media channels, and email marketing efforts.
• Collaborate with team members to plan and implement public outreach campaigns and events.
• Attend and represent WSTA at community events, local fairs, and public meetings.
• Coordinate promotional campaigns that support rider education and system changes.
• Develop clear, accessible messaging for diverse audiences, including the transit-dependent population.
• Monitor marketing performance metrics and compile reports as needed.
• Support internal marketing initiatives to improve employee engagement and communication.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Demonstrated experience in community engagement, outreach, or public-facing roles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and creativity.
• Strong people skills.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or a related field; OR
• Associate degree with 2+ years of relevant marketing or community outreach experience; OR
• Equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in public transit, government, or nonprofit sectors.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
• Familiarity with web content management systems and digital ad platforms (e.g., Meta, Google Ads).
Work Environment
• Occasional evening and weekend work required for events.
• Role includes both office-based work and field/community event presence.
