Marketing and Internal/Public Relations Intern
COMPANY BACKGROUND:
Family owned and operated since 1970, we are an established and well-respected union, contract plumbing company. We bid work from Orange County to Santa Barbara for school districts, colleges, hospitals, commercial buildings, government buildings, etc. We also have a 24/7 Service Division that does commercial repair and maintenance and Tenant Improvement.
POSITION:
We are seeking an energetic person to initiate, maintain, promote, and track all internal and external communications while staying in line with our mission, goals, and values. This role will further build relationships with client owners, public entities, building managers, and engineers to build our client list and earn new and repeat business. Responsibilities detailed below include in-house promotions and keeping all media current.
The intern will report to the Special Project Coordinator in our Service Division.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
(This position includes handling of sensitive material that requires discretion)
Assisting with various tasks supporting Marketing, Internal and Public Relations, including market research, social media management, content creation, event planning, communications, etc
• Keep current with all marketing and PR trends
• Establish and maintain relationships with Public entities, owners, managers, engineers
• Set up luncheons/meetings with appropriate people to generate business and relationships
• Maintain a data base of contacts
• Develop and maintain company line cards, specific service flyers, and folders with relevant marketing tools as well as give aways such as pens, mugs, tools, etc
• Develop and maintain management resumes and service tech bios
• Develop and maintain Online portfolio
• Update and maintain company websites and social media
• Initiate and maintain updated videos and photos of field for website and marketing slide show (for office and shows)
• Attend shows and network/sales events (Local Chambers )
• Develop new markets and clients outside our current niches (private work, union buildings )
• Initiate satisfactory surveys and Thank-yous with clients
• Internal Relations to include: Communicating the company's vision and values, building employee engagement, maintaining a positive work environment, engaging stakeholders (including employees), and celebrating achievements (safety incentives, photo contests )
• Maintain office image to match our culture and workmanship (pictures/certificates/awards/plaques awarded)
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- I-9 documents to prove authorization to work in U.S.
- Able to pass background and drug screen
• Bachelor's Degree or working towards one in a related field is preferred
• Experience in Communications, PR, and/or Marketing is preferred (can be outside a work environment)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of Canva, Constant Contact and other marketing software or social media management tools
• Ability to conduct online research, analyze data, and identify relevant information
• Experience with updating/creating websites and various social media platforms and best practices (Squarespace, Linked In, Instagram, maybe Facebook)
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills and good command of the English language, including to edit and write possible press releases and blog posts
• Prioritizes well, detailed, shows energy, and understands the importance of the work product.
• Deals with others in a straightforward and honest manner

COMPENSATION:
Part or Full Time over summer months (with possibility to continue)
Rate $19.00/hour
