Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting the council's internal and external marketing and communications efforts, including brand awareness, media relations, and content creation. This position supports recruitment, fundraising, and program visibility through digital media, publications, and public engagement to increase community awareness and participation in Scouting America programs.
Specific Responsibilities:

Plan, develop, and execute a year-round marketing and communications strategy to support the council's goals in membership growth, donor engagement, and public visibility.

Create and manage an annual marketing calendar to promote Scouting programs, recruitment efforts, special events, and council initiatives through print, digital, and social media channels.

Implement a consistent brand strategy across all platforms to enhance the visibility and reputation of Scouting America and the Natural State Council as a household name in Arkansas.

Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, partners, and community stakeholders to expand earned media coverage and increase public awareness of Scouting's impact.

Write and distribute press releases, newsletters, stakeholder reports, and promotional materials that support recruitment, fundraising, and program delivery.

Manage updates and content for the council website, ensuring accurate, engaging, and timely information is available for members, volunteers, and the public.

Ensure brand consistency and high-quality design across all marketing efforts by utilizing tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.

Track and report marketing metrics using tools such as Google Analytics and Meta Business Suite to evaluate effectiveness and inform improvements.
This is a developing position, and we are seeking an applicant to help us shape and grow the role within the organization. This position will include additional tasks, duties, and special projects as assigned. SMART Goals and Quality Measures will be drawn from these responsibilities and aligned with specific performance expectations.
Education
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent experience in marketing or communications will also be considered.
Qualifications

The position requires demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, or public relations through prior employment, internships, or academic projects.

Proficiency in external communications, social media management, content creation, and media outreach is essential.

Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, and website content management systems is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, with an emphasis on clarity, storytelling, and audience engagement.

The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required, as occasional travel for events, programs, or media engagement may be necessary.

Must qualify for membership with Scouting America through the Adult Application process and pass a Criminal Background Check and complete Safeguarding Youth training
