Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC (APTIM), a leading environmental and engineering firm with a thriving coastal engineering practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening in our Tampa, FL office for a Marine Geoscientist Project Manager. APTIM owns and operates a suite of dedicated geophysical and geotechnical instruments, performing full-scale coastal and marine surveys to support coastal restoration, offshore renewable energy development, and various offshore oil and gas applications. Our geoscientists specialize in data collection, processing, and reporting for seabed and marine geology investigations, which are foundational for mineral resource identification, regulatory permitting, infrastructure siting, geohazard analysis, and pipeline/cable routes inspection surveys. The successful candidate will perform a variety of project management, geophysical and geologic work on all phases of projects.

Responsibilities:

APTIM seeks to hire a fulltime experienced Marine Geoscientist Project Manager in our Tampa, FL office, with the option for remote work based on the candidate's experience. The position involves managing projects, including schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Responsibilities include collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting high-resolution geophysical data such as sidescan sonar, multibeam sonar, shallow-penetration chirp seismic reflection, medium-penetration multi-channel seismic reflection, and magnetometer data. Additionally, the role includes the collection, processing, and interpretation of marine vibracores. The employee will use these data to prepare engineering, geological and geohazard maps, technical and scientific reports and presentations for regulatory, facilities siting, foundation-design and a variety of other engineering applications in a team setting.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Serve as Project Manager for various offshore operations, overseeing a team of geologists and hydrographers. Ensure the maintenance of equipment, crew safety, and the collection of high-quality data.

  • Collection and interpretation of geotechnical, geophysical, geologic and other scientific data.

  • Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports.

  • Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral presentations.

  • Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.

  • Working with GPS, geophysical (chirp sub-bottom, sidescan sonar, magnetometers, etc.) and geotechnical (vibracores, surface grab samplers, etc.) equipment.

  • Assisting with the development of technical and cost proposals for Requests for Qualifications, Requests for Proposals, and Requests for Bids.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree (or higher) in geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study.

  • Typically has 10-20 years relevant experience.

  • Must have strong technical/scientific writing skills and be capable of editing diverse scientific reports.

  • Preferred experience includes multi-channel seismic-reflection survey design, implementation, data collection, and data interpretation.

  • Experience with additional geophysical systems (including chirp sub-bottom, multibeam sonar, sidescan sonar, magnetometer) is required.

  • Experience with geotechnical systems (including vibracores and grab samplers, etc.) required.

  • Marine geophysical data interpretation experience using SonarWiz, Hypack, and Discover Acquisition software.

  • Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Surfer software's are preferred.

  • Experience developing technical and cost proposal responses for requests for qualifications and proposals.

  • In addition to Level 1 and 2 competencies has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline.

  • Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Has expertise in own discipline. Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.

  • Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline.

  • Monitors and controls costs within own work.

  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.

  • Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area.

  • Explains difficult issues and works to establish consensus.

  • Promotes teamwork, coaches and guides others.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $105,000 to $130,000. Compensation depends on several factors including experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
