Manufacturing Technician III

The Manufacturing Technician III serves the Imaging Systems division as a liaison between, engineering, manufacturing engineering and production. This position requires strong multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Requirements
• The ability to independently evaluate, troubleshoot, and execute effective judgment to resolve manufacturing, assembly or electronic issues.
• Soldering and the ability to rework high-value electronic assemblies.
• Deep understanding of the use of multimeters, external power supplies, oscilloscopes and other electronic test equipment.
• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and basic mechanical drawings.
• Basic knowledge and practical experience in making simple electronic test assemblies such as wiring harnesses (cable assemblies) or simple point-to-point circuit connections.
• Capable of meticulous and detailed assembly of small, high-value electro-optical/mechanical assemblies.
• Able to collect basic test data and communicate it in an effective and meaningful way.
• Maintains highest levels of quality and safety within the organization.
• Works with and effectively communicates with other Thorlabs departments and management team members.
Physical Activities:
The employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. As a result, they should have a steady hand and good hand-eye coordination. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally.
Qualifications
Experience:
• 6 - 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering
• Experience with electro-opto/mechanical systems
• Hands-on experience in the photonics industry, laser or physics lab preferred
Education:
• 2-Year Technical degree mechanics or electronics OR equivalent experience in similar position
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
• Excellent computer skills must.
• Strong problem solving/analysis skills.
• Manual dexterity to assemble and align precision Electro-mechanical systems.
• Circuit Design Experience and PCB layout is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, both within operations and throughout the organization.
• Mechanical aptitude with both manufactured and lab test equipment.
• Excellent organizational skills to maintain update test documentation and software archives.
• High attention to detail.
• Work independently to solve problems and achieve results.
• Clean room experience is desired, but not required.
• Knowledge of or practical experience using ultra-high vacuum system is a plus.
