We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with Vacuum Furnace Brazing or Heat Treating/Temperature Control experience to lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for vacuum brazing aluminum heat exchangers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vacuum brazing, heat treating or thermal control processes, materials science, and engineering principles. This role involves developing, optimizing, and overseeing vacuum brazing operations to ensure high-quality and reliable products.
The ideal candidate will have experience in high-production manufacturing environments, and an understanding of the metallurgical attributes of brazing aluminum, and familiarity with ASME Section IX and ASME VIII, Div.1 pressure vessel code.
This position is critical to ensuring continued success as we expand our operations and deliver innovative cryogenic equipment solutions to our global customers.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Process Development
- Actively participate in the procurement and installation of a new vacuum brazing furnace and be the SME for this equipment.
- Operate and maintain vacuum brazing furnaces, including loading and unloading components, setting up brazing cycles, and monitoring furnace conditions.
- Develop, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes for brazing aluminum heat exchangers. Optimize brazing parameters to achieve desired mechanical and metallurgical properties.
- Conduct failure analysis and troubleshoot issues related to brazing processes.
- Design, specify, and install work cells and equipment for parts stacking, fixturing, material handling, instrumenting, and brazing to improve production efficiency.
Technical Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with ASME IX and VIII (Pressure Vessel Code) and other relevant codes and company requirements.
- Review product design drawings, and fabrication packages for adherence to applicable codes, customer specifications, and company defined work instructions and manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with quality control and production personnel to identify and correct non-conformities in manufacturing processes or finished products.
- Maintain and calibrate vacuum brazing equipment and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Equipment Operation & Support
- Assure all equipment is operating to defined standards and provide on-call support for 24/7 vacuum brazing furnace operations.
- Guide purchasing on acquiring code-rated materials and ensure proper equipment sourcing and installation.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Interface effectively with sales, mechanical design/drafting, procurement, manufacturing, and operations teams to execute projects and support ongoing operations.
- Actively participate in the development and qualification of vendors and vendor-supplied products or solutions.
Work Instructions & Training
- Develop and implement manufacturing procedures and work instructions for production processes.
- Train production workers on proper manufacturing methods and ensure adherence to specified procedures and work instructions while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Technical Expertise
- Develop a thorough understanding of metallurgical attributes specific to brazing aluminum heat exchanger components.
- Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in vacuum brazing technology.
Candidate Profile
Essential Skill Set, Education/Qualification, Certification Attainment Background:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or Industrial technology.
- 7+ years relevant experience performing similar or relatable responsibilities as those defined above
- Experience with mechanical, metallurgical, and chemical properties and behavior of metals (with emphasis on Aluminum).
- Proficiency in using vacuum furnaces or other related equipment for metallurgical and temperature control of parts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with metal joining processes, particularly aluminum brazing, or aluminum heat treating/temperature control.
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project
- Technical training or demonstrate experience with PLC driven machinery.
- Familiarity with requirements of ASME BPVC Section IX and Section VIII, Div.1.
- Must have the aptitude to be an effective presenter and instructor.
- Ability to work with all levels of people within a team environment.
- Ability to define, organize and lead shop floor manufacturing processes.
- Ability to plan tasks and adhere to documentation requirements and production schedules.
- Must be organized, have strong attention to detail and a drive to complete tasks on time.
