Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Tiffin, OH

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • Exposure to product launches is a plus
  • Experience with injection molding is required; blow molding experience is a plus

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer provides technical support for all aspects of production from design release onward. This role is responsible for engineering activities related to injection and blow molding, drilling operations, heat staking, welding, and assembly. The goal is to achieve optimal productivity and quality while meeting customer specifications.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Own and support assigned manufacturing processes
  • Review process controls based on input from customers, plant staff, and production teams
  • Promote continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen activities
  • Support cell layout development, SMED, lead time reduction, and waste reduction
  • Drive efforts to meet target cost and efficiency goals
  • Identify and address production challenges for existing products
  • Assist in determining capital needs, project timing, process flows, and labor/machine standards
  • Evaluate and propose changes to processes, equipment, molds, and tooling to align with company standards

Key Job Functions

  • Maintain and support project timelines
  • Identify and resolve open issues
  • Review and recommend improvements on mold and fixture design
  • Develop workflows, layouts, and optimized processes
  • Implement product and process improvements
  • Develop tooling and poka-yoke solutions with the team
  • Assist in training technical and production staff on processing standards
  • Contribute to short- and long-term strategies based on customer requirements
  • Authorize engineering change notices, process alerts, purchase orders, spare parts inventory, and training requests
  • Comply with plant safety regulations, labor agreements, and company procedures
  • Participate in project launch planning and support APQP, PPAP, and ISO/TS16949 compliance

Deliverables

  • Meet cost and timing objectives
  • Fulfill requirements for PPAP and ISO/TS16949
  • Provide program status reports (e.g., top issues, corrective actions)
  • Maintain records for molds and selected secondary equipment
  • Prioritize resources and personnel as needed
  • Drive customer and plant continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships
