We are looking to strengthen our Commercial team with an MQS based at Cambridge & Peterborough, with hybrid working available.

You will report directly to the Commercial Manager and be accountable for:

  • The commercial and cost management of a project section.
  • Providing commercial support to delivery and on-site teams, acting as the commercial conscience.
  • Ensuring operations control costs, maximize value, minimize liabilities, and maintain quality and safety standards, while ensuring compliance with governance procedures.
  • Working as part of an integrated delivery team to challenge and improve performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate and aligned cost plans.
  • Reporting according to deadlines and structure.
  • Assisting estimators with robust estimates, risk allowances, and data transfer.
  • Managing subcontracts in line with scope and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborating with procurement to develop strategies.
  • Engaging regularly with the site team to manage allowances and outputs.
  • Forecasting and monitoring actual costs against baseline.
  • Reporting variances and resolutions.
  • Ensuring timely records of deliveries.
  • Understanding contractual arrangements among team members.
  • Supporting risk mitigation and contract administration.
  • Identifying and reporting any cost issues or disputes.
  • Leading and guiding team priorities and decision-making.
  • Negotiating and influencing stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Developing team culture and supporting staff performance and mentoring.
  • Managing change and maintaining records for audits.

Essential experience includes managing costs with a complex CBS, NEC contracts, water-water process understanding, and delivering large projects within scope, time, and budget. A driving license, relevant CSCS card, and ability to influence and negotiate are required. Developing a collaborative team culture and stakeholder management skills are also vital.

Desirable qualifications include a degree in engineering/management/cost discipline and chartered status or progress towards it.
