The Position

Are you experienced in and passionate about public affairs, media relations, and organizational communication? Do you excel in stakeholder communication and relations? At Novo Nordisk in New Hampshire we are seeking an ambitious and driven team member to be our Manager for Strategic Communications & Public Affairs, responsible for ensuring that the site communcation strategy supports high functioning manufacturing operations. This role involves fostering high levels of employee engagement by ensuring they are well-informed to meet business objectives. Additionally, the Manager will work to cultivate robust business, industry, and community relationships, enhance the company's brand & reputation, and secure appropriate operational framework for success. This is an onsite based role Monday-Friday at our West Lebanon, NH bioproduction facility in West Lebanon, NH. The role may require occassional travel to other Novo Nordisk locations in the US or Denmark. Relocation assistance is eligible for this role, in line with Novo Nordisk relocation policies.


Relationships

Reports to: Project Vice President - Business Development & Strategic Communications

Number of subordinates with direct/indirect referral: No direct reports, but incumbent will be expected to manage projects with external vendors and contractors


Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with regional, national, & global communications colleagues (other Novo Nordisk production sites, Novo Nordisk US corporate HQ, and Global Public Affairs) to ensure synergy in communications campaigns, to include external communications & public affairs priorities (media relations, groundbreaking ceremonies, milestone celebrations, crisis communications, issues management & other engagements with VIP stakeholders & officials)
  • Manage daily activities of the communications function, to include staff/vendor/contractor selection, coaching/developing team, performance management, setting expectations, process confirmation
  • Manage area budget to maximize return on investment
  • Identify & supervise external contractors & agencies as necessary to successfully implement communications activities
  • Counsel, coach & provide site leadership/management with information & best practices to develop their communication skills & to drive consistent, effective communication practices
  • Collaborate & serve as site contact for corporate initiatives
  • Develop tools & methods to reduce communication gaps between senior leadership, managers & shop floor, including Town Hall meetings & other employee focus groups meetings
  • Provide senior leadership with feedback & advise on communication plans, messaging & execution
  • Collaborate with P&O, Early Talent, Talent Acquisition, & other facility or expansion project community relations activities
  • Develop & drive strategy for communication channel solutions (SharePoint, digital news, digital signage, digital workplace applications, etc.); support execution team with direction, troubleshooting & best practices
  • Plan & execute processes, materials & meetings with extraordinary attention to detail for senior-level professionals
  • Prepare executive communications (i.e., presentations, talking points, emails, news articles, Viva Engage posts, photos, & videos) for site leader for lateral & elevated audiences
  • Create, review, & approve communication drafts & plans as needed, to include messages of a sensitive, urgent, or nuanced nature for an audience of diverse needs & perspectives
  • Manage & support cross-organizational & functional projects, work groups & initiatives
  • Develop editorial calendar for business-relevant news distribution, to include strategize using a variety of approaches & communication channels
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with all applicable healthcare laws, regulations and industry codes
  • Champion the Novo Nordisk Way and NNx. Incorporates the Novo Nordisk Way and Essentials in all activities and interactions with others

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten (10) years or master's degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in strategic planning & implementation of organizational communication activities, to include change management, media relations or public affairs required
  • Bachelor's degree in organizational communications, Public Relations, Organizational development, or related field, from an accredited university required. Master's degree in organizational communications, Public Relations, Organizational development, or related field, from an accredited university preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years' direct supervisory experience required or equivalent combination of direct supervisory & internal Novo Nordisk communications experience
  • Communications support experience of a multi-shift manufacturing facility preferred, pharmaceutical manufacturing organization a plus
  • Advanced knowledge & experience with MS PowerPoint required
  • Proficient in MS SharePoint & other Microsoft applications required
  • Strong knowledge of business & communication challenges required
  • Demonstrated experience & excellence in coaching & meeting facilitation preferred
  • Outstanding written, verbal & public speaking communication skills required
  • Proficient with photography & video editing & production skills required
  • Strong project management skills required

  • Physical Requirements

    Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role.)
