The Manager - Quality Assurance & Food Safety is responsible for directing food safety, quality and sanitation programs at our Brockton, MA manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all products meet food safety, customer, federal and state compliance. This position reports to the Corporate Senior Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager.

What You Will Do At Acme:
  • Oversee quality and food safety programs, ensuring compliance with FDA, state, USDC, GFSI, and other regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Maintain Seafood HACCP certification and ensure Acme Smoked Fish processes comply with regulatory and third-party standards.
  • Lead customer, regulatory, GFSI, and sustainability inspections and manage corrective action plans to address deficiencies.
  • Manage vendor compliance programs, qualifying products and vendors to meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Service) to optimize product processing, distribution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain robust HACCP, SSOP, SOP, EMP, and GMP programs based on current scientific research and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement pathogen control programs and sanitation schedules, including training for staff on cGMPs and SSOPs.
  • Manage facility-wide sanitation, finished product testing (including test-and-hold programs), and the finished product specification and label program.
  • Oversee consumer complaint database and trend reporting for continuous improvement.
  • Provide documentation for import/export compliance and address customer inquiries regarding product quality and regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics, generating action plans and trend reports aligned with company goals and KPIs.
  • Manage the quality and food safety budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and develop a team of skilled technical staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Conduct training programs to enhance knowledge across key teams, including production, maintenance, management, and sanitation.
  • Deliver constructive and timely performance feedback to direct reports, driving growth and improvement.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, set measurable goals, and provide regular feedback to ensure individual and team success.
  • Address disciplinary actions and manage employee terminations in alignment with company policies.
  • Embody the company's core values, serving as a role model for direct and indirect reports.

About You

Your Education & Experience:
  • 5+ years in food manufacturing required, with 3+ years in the Technical and Quality function preferred, in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3+ years of leading and mentoring teams required.
  • Experience working within an FDA or USDA regulated facility.

Your Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge or certification of USFDA's Seafood HACCP Guidelines a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and food safety standards, including third party standards such as GFSI (BRCG and SQF).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Spanish a plus.

  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse groups and ability to influence others.
  • Completion of training programs as assigned and/or required including standard of work.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to spend up to 80% of time in plant environment.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms or legs to perform job tasks.
  • Must be able to reach above and below shoulder height to move product. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
  • The ability to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job duties.
  • The ability to work in cold (32 to 45 F) and wet environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
