BASIC FUNCTION


Responsible for producing and maintaining records documenting LRTC terminal safety/environmental strategies and action plans to ensure safety and environmental compliance and corporate long-term sustainability.

This position has no direct reports.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Stay informed of industry trends and best practices with respect to safety and environmental compliance documentation.

  • Conduct and document marine terminal safety meetings to ensure OSHA compliance and proper recordkeeping.

  • Conduct accident investigations and hazard assessments as necessary.

  • Update and maintain company Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

  • Work with operations personnel to assess the possible impact of any equipment or procedural changes that will affect safe workplace practices and procedures.

  • Maintain all safety program records to ensure compliance documentation.

  • Assume back-up responsibilities with respect to the maintenance/troubleshooting of terminal stormwater treatment facilities and equipment.

  • Monitor and document environmental housekeeping and storm water practices.

  • Work closely with environmental consulting firm to assist with environmental compliance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving equipment and mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with some elevated noise due to terminal and railroad operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands for various projects and responsibilities. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to work outside in an industrial environment including the ability to climb ladders.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability generally required.   • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Eight-plus years regulatory compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience with a focus on:

o Safety compliance

o Basic knowledge of environmental compliance (can train)

o Conducting training sessions

o Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with public and government agency personnel

o Solid computer skills (primarily Microsoft Excel and Word)


  • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common environmental reports and regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and train personnel.

  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; and be proficient on applicable databases, systems and vendor software programs.

  • ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Ability to set up and maintain organized files (both hardcopy and electronic) and record-keeping workflows.
