Role Title: Manager - Nuclear Heat Removal Systems
Location: UK based hybrid
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Nuclear Heat Removal Systems Manager.
The Manager for Residual Heat Removal Systems is responsible for both the development of technical solutions and team management across the following scope:
- Systems that provide decay heat removal from the core or fuel pools at low temperatures (e.g., Cold Shutdown Cooling System, Fuel Pool Cooling System)
- Safety measures that control fuel temperature at low temperatures (e.g., Faulted Low Temperature Decay Heat Removal, Faulted Fuel Pool Cooling, Fuel Pool Boil Off)
The role includes technical, programme, and personnel leadership of a team of reactor system design engineers and senior design engineers, comprising both permanent RR SMR staff and secondees from technical support organisations.
As Manager, the candidate must ensure the validity of the technical solutions developed under their leadership. This involves delivering robust designs and safety justifications supported by detailed system analyses, including thermal hydraulic performance, reliability, safety (e.g., HAZID/HAZOP, security, safeguarding), human factors, commissioning, decommissioning, and maintenance. RR SMR has cross-disciplinary teams specialising in these areas; the Manager will lead their planning and engagement with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). If necessary, the Manager will work with senior management to develop analysis capabilities and resources within the organisation and supply chain.
The candidate should be an experienced professional engineer in nuclear fluid or process system design, with a proven record of leading teams and delivering complex design programmes.
The role requires engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure progress complies with all applicable requirements at all business levels.
The Manager for Residual Heat Removal Systems is a leadership role within Engineering, requiring strong design expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. The candidate will guide multidisciplinary work packages, demonstrating a positive, collaborative leadership style to ensure successful team management.
The candidate will leverage their knowledge, skills, and experience to support and coach team members, achieve desired outcomes, and influence colleagues across the broader reactor design team.
