The Inpatient Laboratory Manager role involves managing the hospital laboratory's operations to ensure the consistent production of high-quality laboratory data. Key responsibilities include maintaining effective staffing levels, orientating new associates, monitoring quality, reporting, and implementing quality improvements. The Laboratory Manager is also responsible for proficiency testing, evaluating staff performance, mentoring associates, and ensuring compliance with hospital and departmental policies as well as accreditation standards. A necessary qualification is a BS degree in Medical Technology or a related field, along with at least four years of supervisory experience in a hospital clinical laboratory and registration as a medical technologist.
