This is a dual-role technical manager-of-managers position. The Manager Hardware Engineering 2 will have 10-15 direct reports and lead a team of approximately 45 engineers across electronic, mechanical, and configuration/data management disciplines, including process and resource coordination with functional homeroom management.

The position will also allocate 75% of their time to technical responsibilities. The candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that balances interpersonal, leadership, and technical capabilities. They must be a self-starter, able to efficiently operate in a team environment, and collaborate across sector business areas as required to accomplish team goals.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical oversight for engineering activities performed by the team.

  • Lead a team that implements many technologies and needs diverse engineering experiences.

  • Act as a senior hardware engineer to support programs and new business efforts, including hardware development plans, requirements development, design, and integration and test strategies.

  • Responsible for WBS elements assigned to the Hardware Engineering team.

  • Oversee assigned elements using Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

  • Engage and collaborate with program and functional organizations to understand and interpret resource needs to meet program milestones.

  • Manage day-to-day interfaces and communications between Program Management, Engineering Functions, Manufacturing, and Global Supply Chain.

  • Assess, track, and mitigate cost and schedule risk supported by quantitative analyses.

  • Facilitate internal meetings to support design, production, and problem resolution.

  • Utilize fundamental engineering principles to facilitate production and design changes that result in superior products.

People Leadership:

  • Lead the Hardware Engineering team supporting a diverse portfolio of programs.

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to ensure engineering projects meet performance objectives.

  • Directly manage staff and provide direction.

  • Execute, update, and maintain department procedures.

  • Support organizational engineering initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related STEM Degree) and a minimum of 14 years related experience or a MS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related STEM Degree) and a minimum of 12 years of experience.

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: FPGA design, AC/DC circuit design, power design, mixed-signal design, circuit simulation and test, CCA design and analysis, and EMI/EMC design; OR proficiency in mechanical design CAD tools such as Creo, NX, and/or SolidWorks.

  • Experience with engineering lifecycle such as specifications, architecture, design, implementation, integration, debug, and maintenance.

  • Experience designing hardware for ruggedized military systems.

  • Experience with version control and collaboration tools.

  • Experience applying systems thinking and systems engineering best practices to engineering development programs.

  • Proven leadership skills as a people and technical leader, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing people.

  • Experience as an engineering manager, hardware engineering lead, and/or chief engineer.

  • Experience in design development of Optical, Rangefinder Receivers, Laser Diode Drivers, Electronic Warfare, Military, or Space Technologies.

  • Experience with a wide range of embedded devices, such as Micro-controllers, FPGAs, and CPLDs.

  • Experience with communication interfaces and protocols such as USB, Ethernet, TIA/EIA-232 / 422 / 485, I2c, SPI, UART, MIL-STD-1553, and/or SpaceWire.

  • Experience in ANSYS Finite Element Analysis.

  • Experience with TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications.

  • Active Secret Clearance.

Salary Range: $119,300 - $178,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
