As a Manager, Enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS), you will manage and direct the Port of Seattle's GIS program and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) GIS team, working closely with stakeholders at various levels of management. You will be responsible for providing program management for the strategic planning and implementation of Port-wide GIS initiatives, while ensuring compliance with Port policies and standards. You will also manage organizational standards and enterprise licensing while coordinating compliance across multiple departments.
  • You will foster the professional growth of staff by providing performance management, including conducting regular performance reviews, delivering constructive feedback, and coaching.
  • You will collaborate with peers, the Principal GIS Architect, and the Director of Product Engineering to set strategic direction and provide status updates.
  • You will manage staff and team resources with a focus on long-term improvement, sustainability, and GIS program maturity.
  • You will manage the daily operations of the GIS team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and adherence to ICT policies and standards.
  • You will coordinate the efforts of the GIS Team, consultants, project managers, ICT staff, survey staff, CAD and BIM specialists, and GIS experts for the Port-wide GIS program.
  • You will manage the GIS team's solution delivery, production support, and system maintenance efforts.
  • You will collaborate with the Principal GIS Architect to develop the technical architecture for the GIS system to ensure the proper linkage of relevant information to the Enterprise GIS.
  • You will develop, manage, and optimize GIS team budget planning and processes to ensure effective allocation of funding and resources to strategic efforts, capital projects, and individual initiatives.
  • You will coordinate closely with Information Security on implementation of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and guidelines to safeguard ICT infrastructure, data, and systems. You will also identify and assess potential cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
  • You will support audit activities to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, including coordinating audit activities and ensuring corrective actions are taken to address any identified security deficiencies.
Who you are:
  • Experienced - You have four (4) years of experience in Information Technology or Engineering, to include two (2) years of supervisory/lead/mentor experience including leading a project or process.
  • Desired - We hope you have a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration.

You also have knowledge of information security policies, procedures, and guidelines to safeguard ICT infrastructure, data, and systems, identify and assess potential cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Strategic Leader - You motivate, mentor, and coach team members, collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, and drive the team's success through continuous improvement and innovation. You have highly developed skills in strategic planning, including mining, evaluating, and communicating information relevant for strategic planning.
  • Efficient Communicator - You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders while building customer relationships. You have advanced skills in facilitating communication between the GIS team, stakeholders, consultants, and ICT staff to identify business needs and determine feasibility of GIS projects and initiatives. You can facilitate workshops, meetings, and other forums that promote participation and enable successful project outcomes.
  • Analytical, Problem solver - You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze, evaluate, and determine the feasibility of projects and initiatives. You can identify and assess potential cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Highly Organized - You have excellent coordination and organizational skills to plan the necessary resources, tools, and processes for successful implementation of solutions while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and adherence to ICT policies and standards.
What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
