Role overview:

Working within the Cargo and Vehicle Inspection section of Rapiscan Systems Engineering team. As part of our team, the Electrical Engineering Manager will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction through to design delivery and continuous improvement in manufacture. This person will be responsible for the technical and administrative management of the Electrical Engineering group.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new product introduction programs in accordance with the organisation's objectives and ensure that these are delivered on time and to budget.
  • Provide technical leadership.
  • Support and conduct design reviews per established project plans, determining and adjudicating open action items, project risk elements, and managing constraints to closure.
  • Enforce proper configuration control and document release processes including oversight of Agile and the configuration of EPlan and its outputs.
  • Understand and drive organisational processes for the ISO 19001 quality management system related to design, analysis, plans, and other Engineering documentation.
  • Train and mentor Engineers and support staff via personal development methodologies.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, annual reviews, and provide feedback and career guidance.
  • Be responsible for design sign-off to manufacturing and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) through Agile.
  • Provide support for commissioning equipment in the factory and on customer sites.
  • Support the Programs Department organizationally and onsite.
  • Contribute to business strategy and plans development.
  • Maintain awareness of current market, economic, and technology trends to maximise opportunities and minimise risks.
  • Identify alternative markets and adjacent space opportunities to extend the product portfolio's market reach.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in electrical/electronic engineering (minimum), postgraduate degree preferred.
  • 10+ years as an engineer, 5+ years leading a hardware team.
  • EPlan Design Experience: Large power/control circuits, component selection.
  • Additional Design Packages: AutoCAD beneficial.
  • Leadership & problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, team interfacing.
  • Strong organisational & planning skills.
  • Experience mentoring early-career engineers.
  • Collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Electrical design knowledge: CAD (EPlan), electrical systems, PLC systems.
  • Compliance knowledge: CE directives, safety standards (CE, ANSI, UL, CSA).
  • Practices in electrical design reliability.
  • Experience with new electro-mechanical product concepts and complex assemblies.
  • Ability to operate independently and cross-functionally.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Design for manufacture experience in production environments.
